Groove resilient gate valve, also known as grooved end resilient seated gate valve, is a special type of ductile iron elastic sealing gate valve with grooved ends on both sides instead of flanges or threaded ports. Its core feature is fast installation via grooved pipe couplings, which greatly shortens construction periods for piping projects. This valve is tailored for specific pipeline systems requiring rapid assembly and easy disassembly, with outstanding sealing performance inherited from standard resilient seated gate valves (Howard, 2023).
1. Structural Characteristics Supporting Its Applications
The valve body, bonnet and gate are all made of high-strength ductile iron. The entire gate disc is fully wrapped in EPDM rubber to realize bidirectional zero leakage. The groove (grooved) connection design eliminates complex flange drilling and bolt alignment work. Construction workers only need to match the valve grooves with pipe grooves and lock them with grooved pipe clamps. It can be equipped with non-rising stem or rising stem structures to meet buried and above-ground installation demands separately.
Compared with flange resilient gate valves, it is lighter, saves installation space and allows quick partial pipeline removal without cutting pipes. Unlike small-size threaded resilient gate valves, it covers medium and large diameters widely used in main distribution pipelines.
2. Core Application Scenarios
(1) Fire fighting pipeline systems (Most common usage)
Groove resilient gate valves are the preferred shut-off valves for indoor and outdoor fire protection pipes, including sprinkler systems, fire hydrant main pipes and fire pump outlet pipelines. Fire engineering prioritizes fast construction; grooved connections cut installation time by over half compared with flanged connections. The reliable elastic rubber seal prevents water leakage in long-term static fire pipelines.
(2) Municipal and building water supply pipelines
It is widely adopted for secondary water supply pipelines in residential communities, commercial buildings, office complexes and shopping malls. For vertical risers and horizontal branch water pipes inside buildings, the compact grooved structure fits narrow pipe shafts. Non-rising stem grooved resilient gate valves are commonly buried in underground valve wells of residential districts.
(3) HVAC circulating water systems
Cooling water and chilled water circulation pipelines for central air conditioning, industrial cooling towers and heat exchange stations frequently select grooved resilient gate valves. The full bore flow channel brings low pressure loss, and convenient disassembly facilitates daily pipeline cleaning and equipment overhaul.
(4) Factory clean reclaimed water & low-corrosion industrial water
General industrial circulating water, landscape water and light sewage treatment delivery pipelines use this valve. It is not suitable for high-temperature steam, strong acid and alkali media or fluid carrying massive hard abrasive particles, which will damage the EPDM elastic seat.
3. Working Parameter Limits
Standard grooved resilient gate valves work under PN10 and PN16 pressure grades, with operating temperature ranging from -10℃ to 80℃. The applicable medium is clean water, fire water, circulating water and neutral low-corrosion liquid. Most products comply with AWWA, GB and ISO water supply and fire protection valve standards.
4. Unique Advantages Matching Its Application Fields
Fast grooved clamp connection, greatly improving construction efficiency for large-scale building and fire projects.
Compact size, suitable for narrow pipe shafts, underground valve pits and limited installation space.
Ductile iron body with anti-rust coating, long service life for buried and indoor environments.
Bidirectional zero leakage elastic seal, meeting strict water supply and fire safety requirements.
Easy maintenance: single pipeline segment can be detached quickly without cutting pipes.
5. Selection Tips
Choose non-rising stem groove resilient gate valve for buried pipelines and valve wells; pick rising stem type for above-ground fire risers where staff need to visually check opening degree.
