What Is a Resilient Seated Gate Valve?

A resilient seated gate valve, also widely named elastic seat gate valve, is a popular linear motion shut-off valve specially designed for clean water, municipal water supply and low-corrosion fluid pipelines. Its core innovation lies in the fully encapsulated elastic rubber cladding on the gate disc, which achieves bubble-tight bi-directional sealing, solving the inherent leakage defect of traditional metal-seated gate valves (Pearson, 2023).

1. Unique Sealing & Structural Design

The gate plate is integrally coated with high-elastic EPDM rubber. When the valve closes, the rubber surface closely fits the valve body’s metal seat. The elastic deformation of rubber compensates tiny machining errors and foreign particle gaps, realizing zero leakage under rated pressure. Two mainstream stem structures are available: rising stem resilient seated gate valve and non-rising stem resilient seated gate valve.

Rising stem type: The valve stem extends outwards as the gate opens and closes. Operators can directly judge opening degree by stem height; it is ideal for above-ground pipelines with visible operation space.

Non-rising stem type: The stem only rotates inside the bonnet without outward extension. It occupies little vertical space and is the preferred choice for buried underground water pipes, valve wells and compact equipment rooms.

Valve bodies are mostly manufactured from ductile iron, which features high tensile strength, impact resistance and anti-rust performance, far superior to ordinary gray cast iron. Multiple connection methods cover diverse construction demands: flange, groove clamp and threaded thread types. Groove resilient gate valves are fast-installed for fire-fighting pipelines; small-bore threaded resilient seated gate valves fit small branch water pipes.

2. Core Advantages

Zero bidirectional tight sealing: Elastic rubber eliminates internal leakage, meeting strict drinking water supply standards.

Low operation torque: The rubber coating reduces friction between gate and seat, requiring less force to open or close.

Full bore flow channel: No shrinkage inside the valve body, minimal pressure loss, suitable for large-flow water delivery.

Strong dirt tolerance: The elastic seat can wrap tiny sediment particles temporarily without permanent leakage.

Long service life: Ductile iron body plus wear-resistant EPDM liner can work steadily for 8–12 years under normal water supply conditions.

3. Working Conditions & Application Scenarios

Standard ductile iron resilient seated gate valves adapt to medium temperature from -10℃ to 80℃, PN10/PN16 pressure grades. They are the standard supporting valve for water supply projects, including urban tap water pipe networks, residential water distribution, fire protection systems, cooling circulation water and clean reclaimed water pipelines.

This valve is not recommended for high-temperature steam, strong corrosive chemical liquid or media with a large amount of hard abrasive particles, which will cause rapid aging and scratch damage of the rubber elastic seat.
