Pipeline Strainer
Pipeline strainer refers to a general category of inline filtration equipment installed directly on fluid pipelines, whose core function is to intercept solid contaminants suspended in liquid, gas and steam media. As a vital protective fitting for the whole fluid system, it is universally mounted upstream of pumps, control valves, flow meters, pressure sensors, heat exchangers and precision process equipment. By trapping welding slag, rust scale, sand grains, sediment and other particulate impurities, pipeline strainers effectively avoid internal scratch, blockage, abrasion and premature failure of downstream precision components, stabilizing long-term pipeline operation and cutting equipment maintenance costs.

The basic composition of any standard pipeline strainer includes a pressure-resistant valve body, a replaceable filter element, sealed end caps and standard pipeline connection ends. When medium flows through the equipment, solid particles are blocked on the surface or inner space of the filter mesh, and clean fluid continues to transmit downstream. Filter elements are mostly made of stainless steel 304 or 316 woven mesh or perforated plates, with customizable mesh counts to adjust filtration accuracy from coarse separation to fine particle interception. The valve body can be cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel or full stainless steel, matching cold water, hot water, high-temperature steam, fuel oil and weakly corrosive chemical fluids. Installation rules follow consistent standards across all pipeline strainers. The flow direction arrow marked on the body must align with actual medium flow. Most models allow both horizontal and vertical installation, while the cleaning port or drain outlet should face downward to collect impurities by gravity and facilitate smooth sewage discharge. For systems with continuous non-stop production requirements, dual parallel pipeline strainers can be configured: one stays in normal filtration service while the other undergoes cleaning, realizing uninterrupted fluid supply.
Compared with complex large-scale filtration machines, pipeline strainers feature compact volume, low procurement cost and simple operation. Conventional manual types only require periodic opening of the end cover to take out and rinse the filter screen, with few vulnerable spare parts and low long-term maintenance investment. Automatic backwash versions further reduce labor input through differential pressure or timing control logic, suitable for remote pump stations and large circulating water projects without regular on-site inspection.
