Basket Strainer
A basket strainer is a critical industrial pipeline filtration device designed to remove solid contaminants from liquid, gas, and steam media, serving as essential protective equipment for downstream pipeline systems. Unlike Y-type strainers with limited filtration capacity, the basket strainer adopts a cylindrical basket mesh structure, which provides a larger filtering area, higher dirt holding capacity, and superior impurity interception efficiency. It is widely installed upstream of pumps, control valves, flow meters, heat exchangers, and other precision equipment to block welding slag, rust particles, sand, scale, and other suspended impurities, effectively preventing equipment abrasion, pipeline blockage, and system operational failure.
The overall structure of the basket strainer consists of a robust valve body, a removable cylindrical filter basket, a sealed top cover, and standard pipeline connectors. During normal operation, the medium flows into the strainer body, passes through the fine mesh of the internal basket, and exits through the outlet as clean fluid, while all solid pollutants are trapped inside the basket. The straight-through internal flow channel minimizes fluid turbulence and pressure loss, ensuring stable and continuous pipeline operation. When the basket accumulates excessive dirt and causes pressure differential rise, users can open the top cover, take out the basket for thorough cleaning or replacement, and quickly restore the filtration function without cutting off the entire pipeline system for a long time.
Manufactured with high-strength materials, the strainer body commonly adopts ductile iron, carbon steel, and stainless steel to adapt to different pressure and corrosion working conditions. The filter basket is mostly made of 304 or 316 stainless steel, featuring wear resistance, high temperature resistance, and anti-corrosion performance. Mesh sizes are customizable from coarse to fine to meet diverse filtration precision requirements for different media. Standard pressure ratings include PN16, PN25 and Class 150, with complete diameter specifications covering small-bore to large-diameter main pipeline applications.
One of its most prominent advantages is the ultra-large dirt holding capacity, which greatly extends the maintenance cycle compared with conventional Y-type strainers. It is particularly suitable for pipelines with high impurity content, large flow rate, and long-term continuous operation. In addition, the fully enclosed sealing structure ensures zero medium leakage under rated working pressure, and the simple assembly structure reduces daily maintenance difficulty and operating costs. It supports multiple connection methods such as flange and threaded connections, compatible with industrial, civil, fire protection, and municipal pipeline standards.
