Threaded resilient seated gate valve applicable nominal diameter range

Threaded resilient seated gate valves(screwed soft-seal gate valves)adopt internal/external thread connections(BSPT,NPT,G,RC).Their nominal diameter range is limited by thread mechanical strength,casting structure and international engineering specifications.The sizes are divided into mass-produced standard sizes and custom extended sizes,with clear engineering usage restrictions(Reed,2023).

1.Standard Mass Production Size Range(Mainstream Stock Sizes for Water Supply)

This is the universally accepted standard range for ductile iron threaded resilient gate valves in municipal,building domestic water and small fire branch pipelines,fully stocked by all regular valve factories:

Application Scenarios for Standard Sizes

DN15~DN25:Household tap water branch pipes,water meter front/rear cut-off valves,small garden irrigation pipelines,laboratory auxiliary water supply;

DN32~DN50:Building toilet vertical risers,small indoor fire hydrant branch lines,cooling tower auxiliary circulating water,small factory clean water branches.

2.Custom Extended Size Range(Non-Stock,Special Custom Only)

A small number of manufacturers can produce larger threaded resilient gate valves for compact equipment skids with ultra-limited installation space:

DN65(2-1/2"),DN80(3"),DN100(4")

Key Limitations of Extended Sizes

Poor structural safety:Threaded connections rely solely on thread teeth to bear axial tension.DN65 and above pipelines bear large water hammer impact and pipeline pulling force,which easily causes thread cracking,joint loosening and medium leakage;

Long lead time&high cost:These sizes are not mass-produced,requiring separate mold opening and customized processing;

Not recommended by global water supply codes:AWWA,EN and domestic CJ/T 216 standards clearly stipulate that threaded resilient seated gate valves shall not be used for pipelines above DN50 in conventional water supply and fire engineering;flanged or grooved connections are mandatory for DN65 and above.

3.Ultra-Small Sizes Below DN15(DN10/3/8")

Ductile iron threaded resilient seated gate valves are rarely produced for DN10 and smaller sizes.Brass threaded gate valves are the mainstream product for tiny small-bore pipelines instead,due to lighter weight and better thread precision for miniature pipelines.

4.Core Reason for DN50 Upper Limit Restriction

Thread connection cannot withstand long-term alternating pressure and pipeline displacement of large-diameter pipes:

The tensile strength of ductile iron threads decreases sharply as the bore increases;

Large flow rates generate strong instantaneous water hammer,which will separate threaded joints;

Maintenance difficulty rises sharply for DN65+threaded valves;disassembly easily damages the valve body thread.

5.Matching Pressure Grade for Standard DN Range

All DN15~DN50 standard threaded resilient seated gate valves support PN10 and PN16 nominal pressure,compatible with NPT(American standard),BSPT/G(British standard)thread types for export and domestic projects.

Custom special extended range(only for compact equipment skids,not for municipal main pipes):DN65~DN100(2-1/2"~4")

Not applicable range:Diameters above DN100;replace with flange/grooved resilient seated gate valves.
