Wafer Check Valve

Wafer check valve is a thin, compact non-return valve designed for installation between two pipe flanges without separate flanges on the valve body itself. It belongs to automatic one-way valves that rely on fluid pressure difference to open and close, widely used for liquid and gas pipelines with limited installation space.

The valve features an ultra-thin wafer-style body, much slimmer than swing or flanged check valves. Its internal core is usually a spring-loaded disc or double disc structure. When medium flows forward, fluid thrust overcomes spring tension and pushes the disc open, creating a smooth flow channel with low pressure loss. If flow ceases or reverse pressure appears downstream, the built-in spring instantly presses the disc tightly against the valve seat to block backflow within milliseconds. The fast closing action effectively relieves water hammer shock, protecting pumps, compressors and precision pipeline equipment.

Installation is the most prominent feature of this valve. It is simply clamped between two pipeline flanges, fixed together by flange bolts. No threaded ends, welded joints or grooved couplings are needed. This wafer clamping structure saves plenty of axial space, making it ideal for narrow pipe wells, compact equipment assemblies and small-bore pipeline branches. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically with upward medium flow, bringing great layout flexibility.

Most wafer check valve bodies are made of cast iron, ductile iron or stainless steel. Sealing surfaces adopt EPDM, PTFE or stainless steel hard seals to adapt to clean water, oil, air, weak acid and alkali media. Standard pressure grades cover PN10, PN16 and Class 150, with complete sizes from DN25 up to DN300 to match common industrial and civil pipe specifications. Double-disc wafer check valves offer larger flow capacity and lighter weight, while single-spring wafer types perform better in low-flow and low-pressure working conditions.

Compared with other check valves, it has obvious cost and structural merits. The lightweight thin body reduces raw material consumption and transportation costs. There are few wearing internal parts, so daily maintenance workload is low. Most models allow quick disassembly for seal replacement without cutting or removing long pipeline sections. Soft-sealed versions achieve bubble-tight shutoff to avoid medium cross-contamination and system pressure loss.
