Static Balancing Valve
Static balancing valve, also called manual balance valve, is a special regulating fitting widely used in HVAC heating and cooling circulating water pipeline systems. It is designed to solve uneven flow distribution among parallel pipe branches caused by inconsistent pipeline resistance, so as to realize accurate static hydraulic balance of the whole water network under design working conditions. Unlike dynamic balancing valves that automatically adjust flow with pressure fluctuation, static balancing valves rely on one-time manual setting to fix the flow rate of each branch, maintaining stable water distribution when the system operates at rated load.
Its internal structure combines a precise throttling spool, built-in measuring ports, calibrated scale indicator and bidirectional flow passage. Two pressure test taps are reserved on the valve body, allowing technicians to connect differential pressure gauges on site to read real-time pressure drop data across the valve core. Based on design flow parameters provided by engineering drawings, construction staff rotate the handwheel to adjust the opening degree of the spool. The clear external scale records the fixed opening position after debugging, locking the valve core to avoid random displacement. Once calibrated, the valve forms a stable fixed resistance for its corresponding pipeline branch, limiting excess water flow in over-supplied loops and supplementing flow for under-supply terminals. This eliminates common problems such as overheating or insufficient cooling in different building zones.
The valve body is generally cast from ductile iron with anti-corrosion epoxy coating. Internal throttling components adopt stainless steel and wear-resistant rubber sealing to guarantee tight shut-off and long-term stable throttling performance. Standard pressure grades include PN10 and PN16, with threaded, flange and grooved connections covering DN15 to DN300 to match small terminal branches and large main circulation pipes. The flow adjustment range is fully calibrated in factory, ensuring high regulating accuracy within the full opening stroke.
The debugging logic of static balancing works for steady-state system operation. After the entire HVAC water system completes flushing and cleaning, engineers conduct unified hydraulic balancing adjustment for each floor, each unit and each branch loop one by one. After setting the required flow value, the valve opening is locked with a limit device. The setting parameter only needs re-adjustment when the system layout, terminal quantity or design load undergoes major modification. Under normal long-term operation, no repeated regulation is required, which greatly reduces daily system management workload compared with unbalanced piping.
Without static balancing valves, parallel branches with shorter pipe length and lower resistance will obtain excessive circulating water, while long-distance terminals suffer inadequate flow. This imbalance leads to huge energy waste of water pumps, uneven indoor temperature, noise generated by over-flow pipelines and reduced overall comfort of air conditioning and heating. Static balancing valves eliminate such hydraulic disorder fundamentally by matching pipeline resistance through fixed throttling, lowering pump power consumption and improving the efficiency of chillers and boilers.
This valve is mainly installed on branch risers, floor manifold pipes and unit inlet pipelines of central air conditioning, floor heating and hot water heating systems. It is applicable to commercial complexes, office buildings, residential communities, shopping malls and industrial plant circulating water networks.
